We all know there is no cure for arthritis - a painful, debilitating disease seen in young and old - including our daughter. That is why I have been marathoning and fundraising for the past 19 years, going for #20 in 2020! I thank the Arthritis Society for starting me on this epic journey with my first Honolulu Marathon in 2001, with their Joints-in-Motion Team. After repeating it 7 times, I ran the Okanagan in Kelowna where I qualified for Boston and ran it 3 times, 2009,'10' and '11!! Then ran Vancouver, Mazatlan, Mexico twice, and Kelowna 4 times, joined by numerous family and friends, a group of 17 one-year, various distances! I am overwhelmed by all the encouragement and financial support in reaching my fundraising goal most years! THANK YOU! If we all keep on keeping on, surely we will see a 'cure'/pain relief in my lifetime, even though I'm 84! That is still my goal.
Marathon #20 will be a FULL HONOLULU MARATHON on December 13, 2020. (Registered BEFORE Caronavirus!) There is no half so I am aiming for the full 26.2 miles/42.2k's. I know, I know, I collapsed from heat exhaustion in 2018 at the 40k mark but I recovered, quite quickly! People with arthritis bravely press on after a setback and so must I!! Please help if you can. Every run is tough but I sense your cheers, thoughts and prayers, and give thanks for each and every donation, large or small. I carry a list of your names with me on my journey. Les will again join me for the first 10k.
Bless you all,
Violet Holmes
