Benjamin Yanko is your average, active 5 year old little boy. But he wasn't always that way. He went through a time of being very sick and having many tests to find out what was wrong.
We now know what was making him sick. A rare disease called Systemic Juvenille Idiopathic Arthritis or SJIA. There is no cure. Luckily though, they've made tremendous advances in drug therapy for this disease. His disease is now controlled by a daily injection. Although this is wonderful that his disease is controlled, having to give him a daily needle is quite traumatic for both he and I.
While attending the JIA Family Day in Saskatoon, one of the presenting researchers made it very clear.. Advances in research are not due to lack of scientists, knowledge, time, etc.. it's only money.
Help me advance research even further. Let's find a drug that doesn't require a needle.
Better yet, let's find a cure!
