When most of you hear stories of Hari, they usually involve his 3-year-old antics with him out witting us and eating treats on the highest ledge or shelf in our house. This boy has spunk and determination!

What we don't often talk about is his Juvenile Arthritis. It all started the summer before Hari turned 2. We were in Montreal for a family wedding and we noticed Hari was limping as he was running races with his brother. This limp persisted into the fall. We had seen our pediatrician many times and had many x-rays with no results so we were referred to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. This appointment was not till the spring and in the mean time over the holidays his limp resolved itself so we thought nothing of it.

The first week of April arrives I am 9 1/2 months pregnant and we were going to this specialist appointment feeling a little guilty thinking we didn't need it, Hari isn't limping anymore. That is when the floor fell under us.

Within minutes the doctor had us going for another x-ray of Hari's right knee right there in the hospital clinic. He then informed us he believed Hari may have a rheumatic disease. We were sent right away to the pediatric day unit for blood work, we were in complete shock. Within 6 weeks Hari was diagnosed with JA and was getting an injection in his knee.

Through this whole process, injections, regular clinic appointments, physio appointments and eye appointments Hari never complains. The hardest part for him is the routine blood work but through it all he is well mannered and brave.

As of August Hari has been in remission, we hope it stays this way but with any chronic illness the disease could flare up and come back. With continued research, our hope is that permanent remission could be Hari's future.

There is no cure for arthritis, a painful and devastating disease, that is why we are participating in the Walk for Arthritis.

As the prevalence of arthritis increases, so does the demand for investment into cutting-edge research, proactive advocacy and innovative information and support that will deliver better health outcomes for people affected by arthritis.

This year the Walk for Arthritis is celebrating its 10th year - help make this the best year ever by joining the Walk for Arthritis community and supporting this important cause!

Thank you!
