There is no cure for arthritis – a painful and devastating disease - that is why I am participating in the Walk for Arthritis.
Today, more than 6 million Canadians are affected by arthritis. These numbers are only going to increase. By 2035, 1 in 4 Canadians will have arthritis. That means you or your wife, your mother or your brother just may have arthritis.
As the prevalence of arthritis increases, so does the demand for investment into cutting-edge research, proactive advocacy and innovative information and support that will deliver better health outcomes for people affected by arthritis.
Why is this important to me? My great-aunt was diagnosed with arthritis around fifteen years ago. I saw her crying in pain, with deformed hands that she could barely move. No treatment was working for her. It was a horrible situation. After a year of being hopeless, a doctor proposed her to participate in a drug trial. The drug was developed here in Canada. And that drug gave my great-aunt her life back.
Three more of my aunts have been diagnosed with arthritis since then. Even when their cases are not as severe as my great-aunt's, that could be the case in the future. Even for myself.
I've seen the benefits of the research conducted by the Arthritis Society. Please help me to help them continue working to find a cure. For me, for my family... for you, for your family!
This year the Walk for Arthritis is celebrating its 10th year - help make this the best year ever by joining the Walk for Arthritis community and supporting this important cause!
Thank you very much!
